As public frustration with government non-delivery grows, and trust declines, the question of ‘what works’ has taken on ever-greater urgency. That’s why IDEA is calling for a step-change in how we determine which public policies work – and which don’t.

At the launch, IDEA research director Max Rashbrooke and report author Alex Barker will set out proposals to boost the number of public programmes that get properly evaluated, paving the way for more effective spending, less waste and a renewed trust in government’s ability to deliver.

They’ll look at whether New Zealand should copy the recently created Australian Centre for Evaluation – and other proposals for getting a better handle on what is (and isn’t) a good use of our taxpayer dollars.
